How to Get an Apartment
- Apartments are available on an "as available"
basis only. "As available" means "IF" we have something
available
"WHEN" you need it.
We
are generally unavailable on
major holidays such as Christmas Eve and Day, New Years Eve and
Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Memorial Day and so forth.
We do not take
reservations.
That may seem unreasonable, but this is not a hotel and reservations
are an expensive hassle for us. No, we do not accept "deposits to hold
apartments," which is just another kind of reservation. The thing to
do is to check in with
us by email to
find
out "projected" availability. You can do this 2 or 3 weeks in advance
to
get a general idea, and then 1 or 2 days before you need the apartment
we
can
usually say what will be available. Always give a brief sumary with
each
contact. Don't expect us to remember your name and situation.
Viewing
Apartments
- We want YOU to personally view
the apartment before you make a decision. Most people come here
when
arriving in the East Bay (Berkeley/Oakland), view the apartment and
then
make
a decision. Some people are willing to take the apartment sight unseen
but
this is not workable because we need to interview you—in person.
Remember this is not a hotel.
- We understand that
having a friend
or a secretary look for you can be helpful. We are not willing
to rent an apartment to
a 3rd
party on your behalf. Every person staying here must be interviewed—in
person—prior to renting. Only the person actually residing in the room
can sign the contract—no 3rd party.
If you arrive early in the day, you can call, make
an appointment
and come directly to view available an apartment. If you have an
international
flights coming into SF International late in the day - you probably
won't
get to the East Bay until late. The best strategy is to go directly to
a motel and call us in the morning for an appointment to view available
apartment.
Fly
into
Oakland
International, if possible. It
is
closer and cheaper to get to UC Berkeley area. You can even take the
BART!
